The Office

Posted by: typealice In: Daily| Links

Dwight (from The Office) has a blog! So funny!

In Canada it is always winter. Sometimes the sun
never rises in Canada. Harp seals abound until they
are brutally slaughtered by Canadians. They worship
maple syrup, hockey and Alanis Morisette. I hate
Canadians.

Note: Screw all you Office (UK) lovers, I think it sucks. The Office (US) is HELLA better. (I will say that staplers in jell-o is hilarious no matter what country it’s in.)

Why is it better? I haven’t seen the US version and I’m just curious as these things often don’t translate but this one seems to have worked

I think the boss is more believable in the UK version- I mean, I love Steve Carell and everything, but he can be a little over -the-top. I love Dwight’s character more in the US version, especially his weird romance thing that’s been happening with the stuck up blonde. I don’t feel the same chemistry between the UK “Pam and Jim” as I do in the US version, and their “romance” makes me squirm in a wonderful way. I love Kevin in the US version too…

Basically, I laugh my ASS off during every single US version, and only have a couple chuckles during the UK version.

Perhaps it’s some sort of English-humor language barrier?

Though, I must admit, I’ve only seen the first season. I can’t find torrent episodes- only entire seasons, and they’re over 4g, which takes SO long to download.

I’ve only ever seen the US version and it slays me. If the UK version is half as funny then its still funny. But the US version is HIL-AR-E-OOS

I think the English/UK version was so successful because it was a parody of something a lot of us have experienced. There is a special circle of hell devoted to the mind numbing torture that a certain type of British office work can induce and the laughs and squirms came not so much from the jokes but being able to identify with the situations. It was funny because it was too real, rather than jokey funny. I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on the US version and see if it translates

That’s EXACTLY the point of the US version… I just think the US does a better job of pulling off the jokes.

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
