A Job Well Done

Posted by: typealice In: Daily| Gillian

Last week I was told that the company I’ve been working for since late-August would like to move me to a different department and hire me on as their employee (instead of continuing on through the placement agency I initally got the job through). This was very good news! It’s a good thing to be moved “up” in the company within the first few weeks of working there. It’s a more challenging and (from what I’ve been warned about) stressful position, but I feel ready for it. I’d initally wanted a low-stress job because my last job in the BVI was extremely heavy. It wore me down, and it wasn’t worth the money or living in the Caribbean, and I wanted something different this time. I’m working for a great company with fantastic people. I look forward to going into work. This is a very good sign.

A couple of weeks ago I got an iPod nano from Matt as a “thank you” for doing his website (thanks Matt! Hi Melissa!). I never thought I’d own an iPod, but here we are. I was nervous about opening it (just as I was about my laptop after buying it last year- it sat on my floor for three days before I even turned it on), but I finally took it out of its packaging today and spent the afternoon going through Clive’s collection of 13,000 mp3s. What a time consuming task. I’ve spent the past five years with about 120 mp3s and haven’t gotten bored. I likes what I likes.

I’m still getting the hang of it (I find the menu thingy awkward), but I think I like it. It’s such an odd gift for me (yet very appreciated!) because I’m not much of a music person and I tend to zone out of conversations about music, and I can’t- for the life of me- tell you who my favorite artist is. I enjoy music very much, but if there’s a choice between MuchMusic and CBC, CBC will win hands down. Especially if Stewart McLean is involved.

Can I play games on my iPod nano? Watch video? Look at pictures? I have no idea.

As a reward for my success in the workplace, I bought myself several new pairs of shoes on eBay and the Season One DVD of Survivor (which I’ve wanted to own since I saw the first episode of Surivior when it first came out). I bought this pair first and this pair next, and am bidding on another pair as well. Lucky me!

You can look at photos on your new ipod, but no video, or new games. You can play the 4 games that come included, they’re in the extras menu. Now that you have an ipod you can check out my podcast (altho its kinda geeky boy stuff). You might like to know though that CBC has like 20 different poscasts, including one about Nova Scotia I believe.

Went to a fetish fair this weekend, for some reason thought of you.

I LOVE Stewart McLean - as a CBC junkie I am often listening to it in the car and I will sit in the parking lot and wait for the Vinyl Cafe to be finished. The only problem is that I usually get all teary when I am listening and then I feel like a real fool.

Anyway, I had to comment to safe my CBC-geekiness with you. I’m a friend of Jens.

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
