Blog to Profit

Posted by: typealice In: Daily| To Profit

So, in case you’ve been keeping up with my journal and wonder what the HELL is going on with my random posts with one random link, let me introduce you to something that I “accidentally” got involved with.

Blog to Profit.

I heard about them from another blog, and figured I’d try it. This other blogger promised lots of cash just for writing entries. So I signed up, and they told me I could get $5/entry if I wrote a decent-sized blog entry about one of their topics, including a link that they provide. They gave me general categories that I could choose from, and then suddenly, $25 appeared in my inbox from PayPal and then an email telling me I had a week to write them, and here were the links. I was taken aback that they paid first- I thought I’d have more time to decide whether or not I was in the program- and then suddenly I was in knee deep, and the only way to get out was to write.

I didn’t really like any of my link topics, but it was actually kind of fun to write with a severe challenge. What the hell can I say about male baldness? Hmmm… pubic hair! I didn’t want to appear like a full-on sell out, so I just tried to make the entries as interesting as possible. I don’t get any additional money for the number of times a link has been clicked, so I’m sorry if you clicked on it and didn’t want to have anything to do with my blogging for profit.

So, if you did catch on to my last few entries and wondered what the hell was going on… what did you think? If I continue to do this Blog to Profit thing (I’ve said I don’t want to, for the moment), would you stop reading? I’ve already started a new category that each “To Profit” entry is categorized under, but outside of that, I’m not sure how else I could set them apart.

Maybe I should start a whole new blog just for the To Profit parts?  Am I selling out?

You may have also noticed at the bottom of the menu bar, that I have a google ad. My first one! I’m actually pretty excited about it, and don’t think that I’ll make any money from it, but it’s non-invasive and doesn’t interupt the design scheme or anything… it’s just kind of there.

I really AM a sell out! Please tell me what you think about my To Profit-ing.

i’ve wondering myself bout some sort of blogging-for-profit scheme. I really prefer the idea of a seperate blog for it though, to somehow keep my own “real” blog somehow… more pure?
It seems to me that the real profit potential comes from deals like Shannon’s Under Mars site… he doesn’t have to come up with his own content, just manage and post things, and wait for the adsense pennies to trickle in. I guess it’s just about getting the traffic started…
Do these people actually read/review the posts you link with? I think it’s a fun idea to add a little social parody, especially if someone else is paying for it.

I don’t see anything wrong with it. I mean, what’s wrong with getting paid to do something that is semi-interesting and allows you to be somewhat creative? It’s better than anything.

Dooce blogs to support herself. Nothing wrong with that, I enjoy her writing, as I enjoy yours.

Hmmm, would you mind emailing me maybe with more information on this? I am constantly updating because I get so bored at work, and I wouldn’t mind having some guidance on topics and getting paid.

to anyone wondering, i *do* get people leaving comments on my “profit” blog entries, sometimes more often then my non-profit entries! generally people giving me tips on other services that are similar to the ones i’m plugging, which is kind of strange, but *shrug*

i was thinking of turning comments off on for-profit entries, but generally i only pick topics i’m actually at least half-interested in, so it’s fun to see what other people have to say!

i think that its ok…i like reading what your write- and this is just a way for you to write about things you wouldnt otherwise talk about. so in a way its good- giving all us readers an insight into topics that we wouldnt otherwise get.

im not very good at explaining myself. sorry.

but yes its fine, and you get to make a little money from it which is good for you!

….thats my opinion anyhow!

Hi there,

Do it! What a great way to make extra cash. Also, can you post the link to the company/site that offers this?

Angela: The person I originally got the link from asked to be referred, so I’d actually heard about it before you told me. So there! ;)

Well, I’m going to be a big black sheep here. Nope, I won’t read the ones that say they are categorized in to profit. It’s your blog and more power to you, but if I see the category is “to profit” i won’t read it. I’m a suspicious internet user and I was fairly certain something was up when I read the earlier entires AND you closed comments.

Besides, I’d prefer for us to get back into our habit of big long emails. In fact, I am going to write you one right now.

I don’t concentrate on refering people a whole lot.

I’m on two different “for profit” type programs, one where I pick the links I want to link to, and one where the links are given to me (the same that typealice is on now)

I have a category saying they’re sponsored posts, but I still try to write around them. Like I got one for a web design company. So I just ranted on and on about how I’m re-designing my own site.

And I picked out one that was for a site that reviews different web-hosting companies. So I just b*tched about the guy who I was hosting from, who ran off with my 6 months worth of payment while shutting down the server I was occupying.

I got a male-pattern baldness one too, and I wrote about how I didn’t know what to do with my hair for my interview come Monday :)

  • Jamie: do you make any kind of totes...I love those for groceries, but the ones I have are beginning to be on their last legs.
  • Amanda: Ahhh yes ok that makes far more sense. and I was too reading *pout* I was just at work and couldnt concentrate
  • typealice: You weren't reading! LIKE a peice of glass: those candies!
