Cha-cha-cha-changes

Posted by: typealice In: Baby| Daily| I <3 Clive| Travelling

I don’t hate Valentine’s Day, I just don’t care about it. I think the extent of the romance of the day will be watching the Beauty and the Geek season finale and maybe a movie. We’ll probably also have to do the dishes. I hate cake with chopsticks twice this week because that’s all that was clean.

I’m very surprised that I’m not suffering from any mood swings brought on by this pregnancy (yet), as that’s what the books and websites are warning me about. If anything, I’m more relaxed and complacent about everything. Hense the fact that our house is a complete disaster and I just shrug my shoulders about it. Normally, it’d drive me crazy. I just don’t care.

Have I mentioned that we’re moving to Nova Scotia in five months? I can’t WAIT. We plan on buying a car before we go and driving there (possibly with a U-Haul trailer behind us, depending on how much stuff we have), and then (hopefully) renting a house on the South Shore, where I was born and raised. An entire house generally costs less than $600/month to rent, which is what we’re paying for our teensy London apartment. I just want somewhere that I can garden and have a washer and dryer.

Clive and I are getting serious girl-vibes. If it is a girl, her name will be Bahari, which is Swahili for “ocean” and was the name of Clive’s late father’s fishing/charter boat when he lived in the BVI. If it’s a boy, we have no idea.

Thanks! Clive’s dad spent a lot of time in Africa (and I think his grandfather did too), and was once fluent in Swahili, I believe, so it’s very special.

I wanted to have all of our children’s names mean “ocean” and I’d love to have another African language- the tribe’s language that I spoke when I was in The Gambia was Mandinka, but their word for ocean is “fancaso” and I don’t like that word enough to have it a name for a kid. Oh well.

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
