Dude, those are amazing prices.

Why do I think you are going to go for a beach house?

Well, I’d love to live in Lunenburg (which is my birthplace) or in Mahone Bay which is a town I’ve lived in before and always loved. I just hope we can live in a small town instead of a city- because prices there are just the same as any other city in Canada- unaffordable.

Gillian,

Yeah you can rent if you are going to be living down here for a short time but interest rates are still crazy low and houses just outside Lunenburg and Mahone Bay area such as Blockhouse or Blue Rocks can be bought for less than $125,000 which with 5% down would be about $750/month. I have a 4 bedroom house in the old part of Bridgewater and my mortgage and insurance is lower than some of the rents that you posted.

Compared to Halifax and considering the available quality housing, rent on the South Shore is very expensive. (I lived in an upscale neighborhood in Toronto for 3 years and paid nearly $2200/mo on rent so compared to that, I live nearly for free.) That being said, Lunenburg is much nicer to live in than BW but Mahone Bay is closer to the 102. Lunenburg has theatre and shops and galleries but both towns are littered with American, German and UK Tourists from May till October.

When We first moved back to NS from TO we looked all around from Western Shore to Conquerall Bank and since my wife works at the Hospital in BW we decided here was fine. Of the towns down here though if you are moving into one vs. being out in the woods, I would choose Lunenburg as it isn’t so full of seniors compared to young people thanks to HB Studios.

Anyhow, best of luck on your journey back home.

All the best,

Jay
