We made it! Clive and I moved in the majority of our belongings last night and I haven’t stopped organizing and unpacking since. I don’t think I even got six hours of sleep last night. It’s 5:30pm, and I’ve been doing laundry since 8am. I’ve washed everything our baby will wear and have organized everything into size, and hung up all of the stuff he’ll (hopefully-ahem-unlikely) fit into when he’s born.

Baby's Closet

I’ve put aside some larger stuff for when he’s a month old, but because I only bought 20-some baby hangers from a woman on Kijiji (who did not make eye contact with me, instead just gawked at my belly the entire transaction), I’ve had to store them in a basket.

Baskets

I’ve washed and folded all of his blankets, face cloths, recieving blankets and burp cloths and stored them in another closet. I imagine that once he’s born, the closets will not ever look this good again.

Hall Closet

All of the larger clothes have been washed, folded, organized by size, and stored in a large container. My god, this kid has a LOT of clothing.

Storage Containers

The rest of the house is in complete disarray. Too much stuff in some rooms, not enough stuff in others.

The child is getting large. He does not like it when I bend over and squish him even more. Sorry baby!

Bone-pattern leggings and a BME diaper bag? I sure hope this kid knows he’s got the coolest parents on the block…

I see you Organizing, Preparing, Loving, and sometimes Stressing, and then compare it to the local island girls here (such as the two (!) pregnant cashiers at Harbour Market), who seem to regard pregnancy as an Uneccessary Annoyance to be largely Ignored.
Rest easy my friend; you are wonderful and wonderfully ready for all this, and more. I have every confidence that your Closets shall remain Pristine.

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
