ECing!

Posted by: typealice In: Baby| Daily

Ever since an online friends of mine has been singing the praises of Elimination Communication I’ve been interested in learning more about it, and trying it with Ash. I’ve been reading Diaper Free by Ingrid Bauer, and it all makes so much sense, especially reflecting on my time living in West Africa, [...]

Shoppin’

Posted by: typealice In: Gillian

So, instead of hunting for the perfect xmas gift for Clive and him shopping for the perfect xmas gift for me, I suggested we go splits on the cost of a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. Last year’s gifts, though pretty well thought out, were basically a waste of money. I spent over $300 [...]

My Love is Getting Bigger and Better Every Day

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

May I, just for a minute, sing the praises of cosleeping? When I first got pregnant I knew very little about parenting methods, and immediately figured that I’d be using a crib. Thanks to a few ladies on IAM (specifically Twwly, rubixcuba, mothragirl and Marie, I think), I am a completely different mom [...]

Mom Brain

Posted by: typealice In: Baby| Gillian

Yesterday I walked around a grocery store with Ash in his stroller for about twenty minutes, picked up a loaf of french bread, soy milk, two pears, candy and six cans of organic pop and juice. I went to the checkout, paid with my visa and walked out of the grocery store. Leaving all my [...]

I’m Weird

Posted by: typealice In: Gillian

Here’s a weird tidbit about me:
When I buy something expensive that can run out, like facial cream or a nice pen, I HATE using it because I feel like I’m “wasting” it. I’ll buy moisturizer for like $30 and put off using it and continue using cheap moisturizer, and then when I bring myself to [...]

Dear Ashden: Month Two

Posted by: typealice In: Baby| Monthly Newsletters

Dear Ashden,
Today you turn two months old. You’re a completely different baby than you were last month. I’m happy to report you’re much less of a bump on a log! Don’t get me wrong, you still flail your arms and legs around without much control, but your coordination is improving, and you’re able to [...]

Lucky Me

Posted by: typealice In: Baby| Family| Gillian| I <3 Clive

Hurricane Noel didn’t end up doing too much damage here in NS. A few downed trees and our power was out for nearly 12 hours, but outside of that, we came out unscathed. We headed for the coast yesterday along with hundreds of other storm chasers, but by the time we arrived at the [...]

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
