I lose

Posted by: typealice In: Baby| Daily| Family| Gillian| Videos

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been letting Ash drink a small amount of water almost every day. He initiated it, reaching out and grabbing for my glass, and he LOVES it. I think it’s partially because it’s cool on his gums, and partially because now is about the time when babies start noticing the eating habits of those around them.

You can hear the clink of the glass on his teeth, and it’s absolutely adorable. He’s getting better and better at the concept of drinking- thrusting his tongue outwards less and less (because that’s how he has to do it when drinking at the breast).

*And I admit that I did not publish this entry last night- but I did write some of it, it’s just that Ash woke up and wouldn’t fall back to sleep so I had to go to bed early. I’m going to keep pretending that I’m a good blogger and that it’s yesterday.

Today my mom and her husband came up to visit Ash us for the first time since early December. Clive and I cleaned the entire house, and when my sister came over she noticed immediately and commented on how clean it was. She also said it was a “shame it’s usually messy because it really is a cute apartment.” My brother, who came over to work on his resume, said, “Since when are you a messy person?”

Since having a baby that needs to be held almost all day, that’s when. I never thought I’d be one of those mothers that said that there aren’t enough hours in the day, because I never had a problem with time managment when I was a live-in nanny. I could always find time to clean up… but I guess because Ash is still so young and I can’t leave him on a blanket on the floor to play with toys by himself while I tidy (though the exersaucer is great for a few minutes of “me” time - ie) right now as I write this entry) or cook dinner, I end up just throwing stuff on the table or around the house and tell myself I’ll pick it up later. Of course, combine that with Clive who just doesn’t care if stuff is put away properly and wouldn’t clean up without my prompting, we’ve got ourselves one hellova mess.

The house can wait, as they say, the kid can’t.

This video is for my sister, and a tribute to today’s weather. Miserable. Yet another day stuck in the house with someone who’s taken to really testing his vocal chord capabilities.

LOL
what I find most funny about this video is that, despite two dozen busted cars on the road, the guy in the van pulls out anyway, POSITIVE that somehow he’ll be the one who’ll be able to control his car perfectly. This is like watching curling…with cars. Hilarious!

Re: Blogging every day. Have you considered Internet Free Weekends? That would also include Clive. Bonus: more cleaning may occur on his part.

Not really possible because 1. Clive works on weekend day. 2. I work online (I have web projects) and I don’t know what I’d do with myself if I couldn’t turn on my computer.

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
