I have a folder containing 1761 pictures that I’ve uploaded to my IAM (BMEzine.com) page over the past seven years. I’m going to upload FIVE pictures at random (they all have randomly generated file names so I don’t know what they are or when they’re from) and I’ll tell you about them.

Rules:
1. Must tell the story behind the picture.
2. Must use the picture chosen UNLESS it shows something indecent because my mom reads this.

This is my friend Nicole. Clive and I went to her wedding in August of 2006. It was a really gorgeous wedding, and the bride and groom are very… unique. Both of them are heavily tattooed and have stretched ears.

I was very drunk, kissed a girl, and had a great time.

This picture was taken in Mexico in 2005 during BMEfest. He was a performer and did things like walk on glass and stuff. We were probably a really lame crowd because as BME folk are pretty used to seeing much harder things than that (ah, castration, anyone?).

Another picture from Mexico.

One day in April (this photo is dated April 7, 2005- Thanks, Flickr!) a box of four kittens arrived on our boss’s doorstep. They were extremely, extremely thin and their hair was falling out. One of the kitten’s eyes had also fallen out/exploded. Our boss did not like cats and wanted to kill them, but Clive and I - the cat lovers that we are - adopted them instead. Clive and his friend Jon took the explodey-eye cat and did something with it that he will not tell me. All I know is that the cat never came back.

We took those cats and cleaned and fed them and loved them. And in return they gave us ringworm. My ringworm lasted through a hundred bleach treatments, several doses of anti-fungal medication and the better part of eight months (four of those months after leaving Mexico). I was not impressed with ringworm, but I loved the cats. We had to leave them behind when we left Mexico.

This is a webcam picture from 2002. It’s my friend Ty, who I met online.

Back in 2000, I got a job as a supervisor for a free internet cafe (kinda), and so my job was basically to surf the internet all day long. I met him randomly on AIM, when I messaged him some weird message about his favorite kind of cookie or something. Instantly we hit it off. He drove from Washington state to Nova Scotia in 2000 and then we took a road trip all the way from NS to Maryland and back up within about ten days. It was so so so much fun. He stopped talking to me a few years ago. I miss him.

This is another picture from my time in Mexico. Damn, I was thin. I was smoking a lot and drinking a lot of diet coke and not eating a lot because I wasn’t hungry. I think about that weight almost every single day. I was so comfortable and so happy being that thin. It’ll be my goal weight (124lbs) for the rest of my life, probably.

BONUS PICTURES! (Because that was fun!)

Err. How humiliating. This is my graduation night from the private college that robbed my soul (soul=money).

This is Clive in the BVI. We’d often head down to our old campsite and take coconuts off the ground and bring them back up the mountain to our house. I’d cook yellow curry with the coconut milk and we’d eat the coconut for dessert. I love the texture of fresh coconut.

Also: that tree is fucking cool, man.

This is a close up of a gingerbread house that I made with my friend Alan when Clive and I lived in London. Alan and I worked together and were awesome friends until he crossed a line (sent me flowers). Up until that point Clive didn’t mind us hanging out because he was convinced that Alan was gay. He wasn’t.

This game was fun! Maybe I’ll do it again tomorrow.

Does Clive think I’m gay too? Ha!

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
