A song to walk down the aisle to

Posted by: typealice In: Wedding

I’m having a hard time deciding what song to walk down the aisle to… well, not even so much “deciding” as “finding.” Here’s where you come in, friends. You were very helpful with choosing the wedding favors, and behold!

Wedding Favors

So now, my musically inclined readers, do you have any suggestions?

I don’t want anything traditional, I don’t want anything extremely recognizable. I like folk music. We’re doing the “people being seated” music as just piano, my sister and Ash are walking down to Hans Zimmer’s True Romance theme and after we’re wed we’re walking away to something fun from yet another movie, something to the tune of this (hello, wedding guests! I suppose I’ve ruined this part of the ceremony surpise).

Why must popular movies have the most perfect songs?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Movies have the perfect music because they pay someone with a vast musical knowledge a wack of cash to do it.

I say go with “Dum dum dee dum, dum dum dee doo”. Traditional, ya know?

The song from Juno is going to be mine and Jonny’s wedding music as well. I absolutely love that freakin song!!! Colin loves that entire soundtrack, he dances his little heart out when I play it.

something that’s quietly beautiful is ennio morricone’s soundtrack from the mission (maybe gabriel’s oboe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRb8KKyenSY)
my sister’s going to think of some folk suggestions.

andrea’s sleeping, but i just though that for more folky songs you might check out “fly” by nick drake. or “you’ve been loved” by joseph arthur. more instrumental - the amelie soundtrack is pretty and while it’s a bit familiar, it’s been a while since that movie was out.

Depending upon the speed you are looking for, Kathleen Edwards might have a song that works for you. If you need either of her albums, I have them. Also, some Fleetwood Mac might work too. or “Little Star” by Stina Nordenstam, from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack. or the Rainbow Connection by the Muppets. Found this suggestion online as well: “Forever Paradise” by the Undertones. Someone else suggested “Olsen Olsen” by Sigur Ros but it might be too slow.

One song a friend of mine walked down the isle to was “such great heights” the acoustic version. It was actually really beautiful. For some neat songs Sondre Lerche is swell.

“Iron & Wine - Love and Some Verses” is quite nice, but it gets a bit more up beat after a couple of minutes so you might want to have made your way down the aisle by that point!

(Or if more up beat is what you want then “Aberfeldy - Love is an Arrow” is one of my favourite songs, or maybe “Bright Eyes - First Day of my Life”?)

I don’t know much about folk music, although I do like Aimee Mann (if she’s considered folk). I have my wedding music sketched out. It’s mostly popular love songs spanning different genres of music. If you’d like me to email it to you let me know. Also, can you tell me how (or where you learned) to make those flowers of yours? I really like the look of them. We’re going with all white flowers, but I think those would be a nice touch.

Folky things… There’s Colin Hay, also second the Nick Drake recommendation, Moldy Peaches, Johnathan Richman/New Romantics, Steve Burns, The Church… thats all I can think of for now.

So, I realized that I offered no help whatsoever. I must apologize, I am horrible at music. Well, I love it, but have a horrible memory for names/artists and titles of songs, I could humm you a few if that would help, you would have to be able to guess what the song is though.
Good luck with music, the choices are awesome so far!

Hi Gillian, It’s Tina’s best friend Sabine. Good luck with the wedding tomorrow! In case of haven’t found a song yet, I walked down the aisle to Enya’s ” Watermark” - with a little Nova Scotia tie, since she sings in Gaelic. Good luck and enjoy yourself!
