A Big Trip

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

Lately I’ve been filling my days (read: nap times) with old episodes of The L Word (I’m midway through season two), a show that I love, yet is a bit dangerous for me because I start thinking about what life would be like if I wasn’t in such a hetero lifestyle.

Nap times have also been filled with doing websites (I’ve got a couple of new projects on the go), sewing Kleen Kanteen cozies (and starting a line of bibs because they sell well as presents for new parents), neglecting my slings, and doing a lot of baking.

Last weekend we took Ash to the zoo, about an hour from Halifax. We had a great time, saw zebras and monkeys and deer and a black panther and lots and lots of other animals. I hadn’t been there since I was a little girl, so it was nice to revisit it as an adult. After seeing owls, Ash can now “whooo whoo” when asked what sound they make. Pretty cool! He loved being able to feed the deer and the goats. There was lots of pointing and “beh!”-ing (his standard “word” for everything he can’t say, which is pretty much everything).

I purchased about ten pounds of pears and more than ten pounds of apples, each for $4. I thought it was a great deal until I got the bags home and though, “what in the hell am I going to do with all of this fruit?” So far I’ve made apple sauce, an apple crisp (without oats since Ash is allergic to them so I can’t eat them either), an apple cake, and canned six bottle of pears. I’ve hardly made a dent. Ash likes to try to put the apples on his head, so a lot of them are bruised.

Fresh produce!

In other news, Clive and I have booked our honeymoon! We’re flying to Cuba in three weeks to an all-inclusive resort. I’ve always been against resort vacations, but because we’re bringing Ash (and also my parents to help out with childcare- how very, very romantic! (but so helpful!)), it seemed like the best thing to do. This way we don’t have to worry about anything. We’ll either love it or hate it, but I hope it’s the last vacation of its kind. It’s almost as bad as a cruise.

Zoom into that map, the beach looks amazing!!

We’ve got an overnight stay in Toronto, so I booked an early flight in so that we can see Clive’s family. We haven’t seen them since the wedding, and won’t see them again until April when we take a trip to Ontario to meet our new neice or nephew, as Clive’s sister is pregnant with her third.

I can’t wait to sit on a beach with my toes in the sand, I can’t wait to snorkel, I can’t wait to soak up the sun. This cold weather is making me mad!

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
