We’ve Been Robbed

Posted by: typealice In: Gillian|Pip

Approaching the car to do our regular Sunday errands, I notice the door is unlocked and tell Clive, “Ugh! You left the doors unlocked again!” and as he’s denying it, I see the smashed glass on the backseat and know immediately what has happened.

For the first time in my life, I’ve had my car broken into. :(

They emptied the glove compartment and searched for things to steal, but with a backseat literally full of toy cars and plastic containers, there was nearly nothing of value. They came away with an iPod adapter and that’s about it. They left the most expensive items- the stroller in the trunk and the carseat. They were even “kind” enough to smash the smallest window (though, it’s also probably the quietest window to break) so hopefully the repair job wont break the bank.

The "Considerate" Thieves...

Backseat covered in glass

It’s just such a pain in the ass. I don’t want to have to call around for price quotes for repairs and to see if we should go through insurance or not.

Things could have gone worse. They could have broken a larger window, stolen the car, pissed in the car, stolen more things, etc etc. Maybe I should be thankful that I got off easy.

The most surprising thing is that they didn’t want our assortment of plastic containers strewn across the backseat!

Yet! They left all our tupperware containers

More stuff up on Pip Robins. I have to admit- I’m surprised at how well I’ve done in my first month. Eleven sales, and 60 people heart me in less than a month. I hope to keep up the sales and continue to have a successful little part time business. I really enjoy making these accessories. I had no idea I was at all crafty, so this is very much a pleasant surprise.

See my haircut? Yay! Not at all what I’d imagined it’d be, but it’s cute and really easy to manage, so, ten points to my new hairdresser.

Our Jeep was stolen and replaced in the same night, we noticed in the morning. They too got away with my iPod adapter. Some spare change from the ashtray too I think. I’m with you on being grateful it wasn’t worse but it’s still such a pain in the ass. I haven’t replaced my adapter either.
P.S. I covet one (or more) of your purses, I can’t wait to get one. :)

When Hurricaine Katrina happened I was living in Windsor still with my dual citizenship boyfriend. He felt obligated, as an American, to volunteer to help out and went to the Red Cross in Detroit for training. His first day there someone stole his car from the secure parking lot. Of course he’d left his passport and US Citizenship card in there, so it was really scary thinking he might not be able to get home easily-luckily it wasn’t a big deal at the border. I was like, fuck, who’d steal a 8 year old Intrepid? but it makes sense in the, well, it looks like every other car in North America and will just slip through the cracks.

Long story short, it sucks feeling violated like that.

Uh, and why do you have so many plastic containers in your car anyway?

I blame clive and he blames me. It’s probably both of us… I put snacks in those things for Ash and he uses them for his lunch. I had no idea there were so many in there!

oh no! :(
check your spare tire area… James’ car was broken into a couple years ago and for some reason his spare tire or jack or something (I don’t remember what exactly) was stolen and of course he didn’t find out till he needed it.

it really sucks. my car was broken into for a handful of change … nickels and pennies … and a few cds. they broke the little window in mine, too … it was around $150 to replace, and it wasn’t worth the hassle to go through insurance. be sure to report it to the police, though, as they keep track of patterns for these things. and vacuum really, really well … 2 years later i found a piece of glass wedged into one of my seats.

I’ve had my car broken into a number of times, and had my stereo stolen once or twice. Its SUCH a pain in the arse.

I was going to comment on the hair and then scrolled down and read that you like it – because seriously? I LOVE it. It is soooooo flattering. I’m jealous because my coarse wavy hair will never lie like that. :)

Yeah, the cost was $140 to replace the window, and it took less than half an hour to repair. SUCH A RIP OFF.

Thanks for all the compliments on my hair. I may go back and get her to thin out the back of my hair a bit with the razor, I find it a bit too poofy right now.

When I leaved in Philadelphia car break-ins were so common, yet mine was spared. Some stores sell official looking stickers that say something like “THIS CAR IS PROTECTED BY ALARM SYSTEM” for each window. I bought them and stuck them on the corner of each window (even though my car does not have an alarm system). Maybe that would help?

And I love the hair too. I have been itching to cut several inches of my hair off lately because of the cold weather and how annoying it can be to have long hair!

That’s a good idea, Ali. I think there are also products on the market that sell things with blinking lights that look like there’s an active alarm system for inside of your car. Maybe we’ll pick one up this weekend. Thanks for that reminder!

I keep meaning to tell you that I love the new hair! I think it suits you so nicely! It is much more professional looking then The PRC hairstyle.
Sorry to hear about your car, that’s pretty shitty :(
