Love at First Bite

Posted by: typealice In: Baby| Daily| Gillian| I <3 Clive

Since the new owner of BME has removed most of Shannon Larratt’s life work from the site, including the well known article, Love at First Bite, featuring Clive and I way back in 2005, I was given an HTML copy of it and have “republished” it on my own domain. You can read it, [...]

Writing Things Off

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

Can someone please explain to me what “writing things off” actually means? Like, if I were to buy a new computer for $1500, would I be able to “write that off” as a business expense? I keep a spreadsheet of all of my business expenses- from thread to materials to a few gasoline receipts, but [...]

A New Apartment

Posted by: typealice In: Baby| Daily| G Slings| Gillian| I <3 Clive

Before Clive and I left for our honeymoon we signed a lease on an apartment that I’d been eyeing for months. The owner was renovating the entire thing, and I really liked the location (two blocks from our current place) and literally right next door to my sister. We share a chimney. I met [...]

Twenty Zipper Pouches

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

These 20 zipper pouches are on their way to P’lovers just as soon as Ash wakes up from his afternoon nap. We’ll be taking a bus there, which is one of Ash’s very favorite automobiles. I take a back road route to one of the grocery stores that we visit several times a week, [...]

Upholstery Sample Books (!!!!!)

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

Today I scored a pile of upholstery sample books two feet high. Yesterday I spent $50 on used fabric. I have more fabric than I know what to do with, yet not enough to stock pile slings. Last night I made three slings and started about four others. Tonight I started three bonnets [...]

Crazy Wicked

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

So, I have a new group of mommy friends. My main mommy friend is about 12+ years older than me and has a baby girl that’s three months younger than Ash. We met through our doula back in December, before she gave birth. We have a good time, but there is a bit of disconnect [...]

What I’m supposed to be doing…

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

I’m supposed to be sewing right now. P’lovers ordered a new batch of slings, 12 this time (horah!), so I shouldn’t be in front of the computer, but I need a minute of downtime before starting again.
This morning Ash woke up at 7:30, which I don’t remember him ever doing before, which meant that his [...]

My family is growing…

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

Today I met my half-sister for the first time. Her name is Leala.
She’s three years younger than me and we have the same (absent, drunk) father. My mother was with him for a few years before leaving him once and for all when she was five months pregnant after he cheated on her with another [...]

A Big Trip

Posted by: typealice In: Daily

Lately I’ve been filling my days (read: nap times) with old episodes of The L Word (I’m midway through season two), a show that I love, yet is a bit dangerous for me because I start thinking about what life would be like if I wasn’t in such a hetero lifestyle.
Nap times have [...]

  • Siobhan: Robyn: Are you being sarcastic? Why would you be bothered it was an April fool's joke, which was a yearly tradition at BME.
  • Robyn: I'm really bothered by the fact that that entire article is a lie seeing as you two didn't bite each others fingers off and you photoshopped all of th

About

I'm Gillian, a Nova Scotian woman with a son named Ash (born 09/07) and a wife to Clive. I am what they call an Attachment Parent; I breastfeed, wear my baby as much as possible, cosleep, cloth diaper and practice elimination communication. I have very strong parenting views. We are raising Ash as an organic vegetarian. I care about the environment and do what I can to reduce my carbon footprint and set a good example for others, especially my child.

I'm proudly drug free, but can't say that I have always been. My early 20s were comprised mostly of travelling- I've lived and worked everywhere from West Africa to the Caribbean. I currently run AP Mamas, a site dedicated to attachment parenting and G Slings, my sustainable sling company.
